Border Health in the MENA Region

Strengthening Border Health and Global Health Security

Integral Global (IG), in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Division of Global Migration and Quarantine (DGMH) and the Global Border Health Team (GBHT), has successfully implemented Master Trainer Program (MTP) Cascade Trainings and Population Connectivity Across Borders (PopCAB) Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) across several countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

Building Capacity at Borders

Through the MTP Cascade Trainings, IG supported public health capacity building at points of entry (POE) to strengthen national and regional readiness to prevent, detect, and respond to cross-border health threats. The program applied a “train-the-trainer” model, enabling Master Trainers to conduct cascade trainings for both health and non-health staff working at POEs in Iraq, Libya, Oman, Pakistan, Sudan, Tunisia, and Yemen. IG provided coordination, logistical support, and supervision, working closely with CDC/GBHT and regional experts to ensure high-quality, practical training delivery.

Advancing Global Health Security

This collaboration highlights IG’s commitment to evidence-based, sustainable global health solutions. By strengthening border health systems and supporting eradication initiatives, IG and CDC are helping partner countries build resilience against infectious diseases and advance global health security.

Supporting Polio Eradication through PopCAB FGDs

Following CDC’s Master Training in Malaysia, IG facilitated PopCAB FGDs in Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) provinces of Pakistan. These discussions focused on improving vaccination coverage among mobile and migrant populations (MMPs) and supporting Pakistan’s National EOC strategy to stop polio virus circulation by 2026. Key objectives included:

  • Tracking MMP movement patterns to understand transmission dynamics;
  • Evaluating vaccination coverage using Lot Quality Assurance Sampling (LQAS);
  • Developing targeted strategies to improve vaccine delivery; and
  • Supporting provincial and district EOCs in outbreak response and planning.
